Economic Buzz: China's 2025 trade surplus hits record USD 1.189 trillion

China posted a record trade surplus of USD 1.189 trillion in 2025, with exports rising 5.5% while imports were flat. December's surplus stood at USD 114.1 billion, the seventh time monthly surpluses topped USD 100 billion last year. Exports grew 6.6% year-on-year in December, beating expectations of 3.0%, driven by stronger shipments to ASEAN and the EU as China diversified away from the US. Imports also rose a stronger-than-expected 5.7%, while the trade surplus with the US narrowed to USD 23.25 billion.
