Global Weekly Economic Preview: Global focus turns to inflation, earnings, and central banks
12-Jan-2026 12:37

Markets head into a pivotal week shaped by key inflation readings, growth data, and central bank signals across major regions. In the United States, attention will centre on the December CPI report as persistent price pressures keep the Federal Reserve cautious. A busy data calendar—including retail sales, producer prices, industrial output, and housing indicators—will help clarify the strength of domestic demand, while earnings from major US banks will offer insight into credit conditions and corporate profitability.

In Asia, investors will closely watch China’s trade and credit data for signs of stabilisation in external demand and the impact of ongoing policy support. Japan’s current account balance, machinery orders, producer inflation, and business sentiment surveys will be key for assessing economic momentum and the Bank of Japan’s policy path. Elsewhere in the region, inflation data from India, a rate decision from South Korea, and household spending and confidence indicators from Australia will provide further guidance on regional growth and monetary policy trends.

In Europe, the focus will be on growth and industrial activity. The UK and Germany will release GDP updates, while the Eurozone publishes industrial production and trade balance figures. Markets will also monitor inflation data from Russia and policy signals from Poland’s central bank, as investors assess the region’s uneven recovery and the outlook for interest rates.
