Agri Buzz: Marginal rise noted in rabi area, pulses acreage gains 4.30%

The total area sown to all rabi crops stood at 61.4 million hectares as of December 26 in the 2024-25 rabi season, up 1.08% from 60.74 million hectares a year ago, said latest data from the Ministry of Agriculture. Wheat, the primary rabi crop, area remained flat at 32.26 million hectares. Last year 32.24 million hectares were sown. Rice sowing rose around 14% to 1.49 million hectares. Total area under pulses was at 13.34 million hectares, up 4.30% on year. Primary pulses crop gram or chana area stood at 9.58 million hectares, up 5% on year. Coarse cereals acreage was at 4.9 million hectares, up 0.40% on year. Oilseeds area edged up 1% on year to 9.42 million hectares. Area under Mustardseed edged up 1.50% to 8.78 million hectares.
