Commodities Buzz: India offers one-year exemption from mandatory quality control for some imported copper products

The government has exempt 14 copper products from the Copper Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 dated April 26, 2024, for a period of one year, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has stated. It had received various request form Industry and Industry Association for issuance of No Objection Certificate for facilitating the import of specialized copper products for use in various sectors, which either do not fall under the Standards mentioned in Copper Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 dated 26.04.2024 notified by DPIIT or not available in adequate quantity and required quality from domestic sources. These products include specified Oxygen Free Copper rods, bars, strips and sheets, Silver bearing Oxygen Free Copper, Zirconium Copper, Generator rotor coils and Electrical and High Conductivity Phosphorous- Deoxidised Copper Generators, rods, bars and strips, select Copper Alloys and some other specific products.
