Economic Buzz: German import prices fall 1.4% in October

Import prices in Germany were 1.4% lower in October 2025 than in October 2024, Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reported . Compared with the same month a year earlier, the rate of change was -1.0% in September 2025, and -1.5% in August 2025.

Destatis also reported that import prices in October 2025 rose by 0.2% on September 2025.

Export prices were 0.5% higher in October 2025 than in October 2024. Compared with the same month a year earlier, the rate of change was +0.6% in September 2025, and +0.5% in August 2025.

Compared with September 2025, export prices rose by 0.2% on average.

In October 2025, the decrease in energy prices (-15.1% on October 2024) once again had the biggest impact on the overall development of import prices.

Compared with September 2025, energy prices dropped by 1.5% on average.

When energy prices are excluded, import prices in October 2025 remained unchanged compared with the same month a year earlier (0.0%).
